  "That's what I was going to talk to you about after the first proposal," Chuck told her, but she wasn't sure if everything hadn't slipped his mind after she'd said yes. "It can be a little terrifying with the change, but like I said before there's no pain."

  "Great, no pain but scared out of my mind, so just a heart attack," Stephanie muttered, but then she sighed. She needed to take all this stuff one fact at a time. "All right, so changing tomorrow and then what happens after that? Am I stuck transforming every full moon or can I control it?"

  "It is possible to control it, but it might take a few tries," he explained to her. "You asked if the werewolf was a part of you, and that's both true and misleading. It's a part of you, yes, but it's almost like a separate entity, an embodiment of your base desires and needs."

  "Like, um, the need we were just fulfilling earlier?" she guessed with a blush, and he grinned.

  "Exactly. It's a pretty powerful feeling inside you, but it can be controlled with practice."

  "So have you been having trouble with your werewolf with me around? I mean, with you wanting to marry me and everything, it's pretty horny, right?"

  "I must admit, it hasn't been easy," he replied. He gave her a nervous grin. "Your wolf and my wolf have been wanting to, um, procreate for quite some time."

  "Has your wolf always been interested in me?" she asked with a mischievous smile and a teasing finger pointed at him.

  "Pretty much from the first time we met," he bluntly admitted. "I don't know why, but it's like my senses told me I'd found my soul mate."

  "Seriously?" Stephanie was having a hard time believing that existed. Then again, werewolves existed. "Wait, on second thought, I believe you. There's weirder things going on right now than soul mates."

  "You have quite a distinct scent," Chuck told her with some amusement. She was blushing quite well. "It's particularly hard to ignore for male werewolves."

  "There's something I don't get. Well, besides how the hell this could've happened to me," Stephanie suddenly mused, and a confused expression slipped onto her face. "If you were trying to save me from Gregory in the alley that one night, why in the world was he attacking me in the first place? Did he feel the same way you did about me? Well, not the whole love thing, but with his werewolf, um, urges wanting me?"

  "To tell you the truth, I haven't been able to figure that out yet," Chuck glumly admitted. "With him being the new alpha, maybe he knew my past and wanted to warn me not to come around their turf again."

  "So he really was going to kill me?" she asked him, but he shook his head.

  "I'm just not sure. Maybe he saw something in you he and his wolf liked like you said, but the only one who really knows is him."

  "You don't think he'd reply to an email if I wrote it to him, do you?" she joked, and Chuck glanced at her with a scolding stare.

  "I think you're getting tired enough you need some sleep," he pointed out. He stood from the bed and closed up his bag. It was packed. "I know the car's not very comfortable, but I still want us to get the hell out of here. There's only trouble waiting for us tonight, and we need to put some distance between us and them."

  "So are we going back to your house or mine?" she asked. Chuck shook his head and smiled.

  "Nope. I've got a much better spot to take you."
